The new SUS has opened! Hiking trails and the Sykkelstamvegen are close by, and many people pass the hospital on their bicycles. Did you know that there are screen walls along the path to seek shelter from gusts of wind and helicopter traffic?

November 16, 2025 was the official moving day for the New Stavanger University Hospital (New SUS). The hospital is centrally located in Stavanger Municipality, close to Sørmarka, Sykkelstamvegen and the motorway.

Along the Sykkelstamvegen there are several hiking trails to Sørmarka, which is located close to the New SUS. The trail, which is located close to the helicopter platform at the hospital, has been nicely developed in connection with the construction of the Sykkelstamvegen and the New SUS.

Along this path, green screen walls have been set up, with benches where passersby can take a breather. The walls were delivered by Nordic Steel to Stangeland Maskin.

The screen walls give passersby the opportunity to seek shelter if there are strong gusts of wind, or if the helicopter has to take an alternative route.

– We have a good relationship with Stangeland, and we have regular deliveries to them. It has been another great collaboration on this project, says Thor Arne Dybdahl, Head of Transportation at Nordic Steel.
