From Norway to the other side of the world

Nordic Steel has produced carbon steel frames for covering offshore components for Plany. The surface-treated frames are part of the UV protection that covers subsea modules that will be offshore.

Head of the project department at Nordic Steel, Olaug Byberg Skartland, talks about a good collaboration with Plany.

– It is always exciting to deliver to the offshore industry, because then we get to use our expertise and find good solutions together, says Skartland.

Nordic Steel has many years of experience and unique expertise as a quality supplier to the oil and gas industry. The largest customers in the industry, both nationally and internationally, trust in production delivered by Nordic Steel.

“We deliver according to the standards required in the industry, and build what our customers need. It ranges from large carbon steel frames, like these for Plany, to advanced separation technology, tanks and ventilation systems in various grades of stainless steel,” explains Skartland.

An exciting offshore project

Fitter Thomas Leander Haukeland Saure from Plany, sales director Gunhild Jørgensen Ramstad from Plany, and fitter BAS Andreas Riise from Plany.

Nordic Steel's experience from the oil and gas industry has been valuable in the collaboration with Plany.

From Plany, fitter BAS Andreas Riise and fitter Thomas Leander Haukeland Saure have worked efficiently in the production facilities of Nordic Steel. The good cooperation led to the work being completed a week ahead of the delivery date. Having a project that is offshore-related, Riise finds has been rewarding.

– Everything has been "spot on" from both Nordic Steel and our side. We have a number of jobs for shipyards and ships, but I think this is the first time we have done anything offshore. It's new and very exciting!

Transported around the world

The subsea modules that were covered by the structures of Nordic Steel and Plany have been transported far. From Rogaland to the other side of the globe.

Such a long journey can involve harsh weather conditions, and the cargo must be well stored, says Riise.

– The reason this needs to be covered is because it will be shipped by boat to Australia. To withstand the elements and block UV light, certain elements on the modules had to be covered.
