– We are building a flow system that is "state of the art", completely world-class. It is a major delivery, which we are well equipped to deliver. Production is well underway, and we have, among other things, produced supporting structures for the flow system, says project manager at Nordic Steel, Aleksander Lundeland.
The Norwegian Ocean Technology Center will be a world-leading center for education, research and innovation within the ocean industries. It will contribute to green transition and secure Norway's position as a leading ocean nation.
The scope, importance and size of the project require that everything be done in the right order. That is why Nordic Steel has also worked systematically on the project from the very beginning.
The project includes design and engineering, with advanced flow and calculation models, to meet the requirements for all the tests to be carried out in the sea basin. In addition to the production of the entire system, Nordic Steel will also assemble the flow system in Trondheim.
– We finished concept development early, and agreed on the solutions, together with Sintef and Statsbygg. This means that we can follow the progress well, and we have already completed the first planned FATs (Factory Acceptance Testing), explains project manager Bengt Sanne at Nordic Steel.
Lundeland agrees with Sanne, and says that it is rewarding to have important and good discussions with Statsbygg, and with one of Norway's leading research environments, Sintef.
– We appreciate the good cooperation we have with all parties, from the client to production and the project workers on the construction site. This allows us to close issues early so that production goes as planned. It is a mega project, but one we are comfortable with.
The production for the Norwegian Ocean Technology Center is showing good results at Nordic Steel's premises. After a long process from tendering, to design and concept selection, project manager Aleksander Lundeland is happy to see the results.
– It's tough to see how big the project is, and motivating to see it come to life. It's especially fun to see a paper concept become reality, taking up more and more space in our premises.
