Traffic-safe solutions in E39 tunnels

Nordic Steel has supplied all suspension systems for the lane signals in the new tunnels on the E39 in Lyngdal. In total, there are over 6 kilometers of tunnel, and there are suspensions approximately every 150 meters.

– The collaboration with Nordic Steel has been very good. We look for price and service when we choose suppliers, and the choice fell on Nordic Steel. For us, it is important that the prices are good in the first offer, so we don't have to "haggle" to get competitive prices, says project manager Marit Holt at Brødrene Dahl.

Nordic Steel's contract is with Brødrene Dahl, a major supplier of equipment to many industries. The company is also a long-standing partner of Nordic Steel.

Found better solutions

The E39 project is extensive and complex, with strict requirements for both execution and delivery time.
Therefore, the key has been to make the right choices, from start to finish.

– The suspensions are made of acid-resistant steel and can be used for all types of tunnels. It has been valuable that Nordic Steel has helped find perhaps better solutions than what we have, says Holt.

The suspension system is used for lane signals, which are LED signs that indicate whether a lane is closed.

The signs are also used to direct traffic and are an important element of traffic safety in tunnels.

Both project manager Marit Holt and department manager for transportation and infrastructure at Nordic Steel, Bjørn Erik Ualand, say that there has been good dialogue throughout the project.

– It has been a great collaboration. We were able to make some changes to the design that made Brødrene Dahl more competitive, and which helped them win the contract. It is rewarding to be able to help see different possibilities to solve the project in the best possible way, says Ualand.

Nordic Steel has had many good projects with Brødrene Dahl, and Ualand believes that is an important factor in why we were chosen for the E39 project.

– We are chosen because of the customer relationship we have, and the good cooperation we have had over many years. It is also important that we can contribute new ideas and further develop previous products, concludes the department manager.
