Application area

Rectangular sound attenuators are composed of a series of parallel baffles. They divide the airflow into several passages and absorb a larger area. The combination of different baffles, with different thickness, distance and length of the baffles, makes these sound attenuators very flexible in determining the sound reduction performance, at specific adjusted frequencies.

The ability for low frequency attenuation is possible by using thicker baffles. This is an advantage for attenuation of fans, compressors, gas turbines or other noise sources. Thinner baffles are more useful for attenuation of higher frequency ranges, for example with dampers or air handling units.

The SAR3 model is specifically designed for ventilation systems, and works as both primary and secondary sound attenuators. Primary sound attenuators are recommended for low frequency attenuation, while secondary sound attenuators are better suited for high frequency attenuation. The solid construction of SAR3 makes it possible to use the sound attenuators for process plants, offshore installations and the marine sector.

Special consideration is given to the design of sound attenuators that will be used in environments with high humidity, pollution and temperature. This ensures that the attenuators are effective and durable in challenging conditions, and perform well where they are needed most.

Materials and dimensions

The sound attenuators can be manufactured in different material qualities and as flange or sleeve type. They can be installed in a variety of locations and are recommended for use in corrosive conditions, such as industrial and offshore environments.

They are specifically designed for use in environments with high humidity, pollution or high temperatures. Standard sizes are shown in data sheets, but all sound attenuators can be designed according to customer requirements and non-standard sizes can be supplied on request.

The insulation material used is a mineral wool that is neither toxic nor flammable. It is attached with polyester or fiberglass cloth and a perforated plate to prevent fibers from the wool from entering.

Noise data and pressure drop values are based on the following standards:

- ISO 7235:2003: Acoustic measurement for duct insulators, insertion loss, current level noise and total pressure loss

Sound attenuation achieved by a sound attenuator depends largely on the sound field inside a duct and how the ducts are set up.
