The industrial history of the area has influenced the construction of both apartment blocks and hotels. Brick has been important in the historic industrial buildings, and black steel is rooted in the building environment along the Mosse river. Together, brick and steel ensure a robust, solid and very special expression.
ØMF Østfold (formerly Asker Entreprenør) from the Ø.M. Fjeld Group, has built three apartment blocks and a hotel in Moss. Nordic Steel has been an important partner.
- The construction method in the project has been demanding. I haven't been involved in anything like this before. It has therefore been very important to have good contributors, which Nordic Steel has been. The delivery of steel for the project has been very good and everything we have asked for has been delivered," says project manager Roger Stensby of ØMF Østfold.
The facades of the three apartment buildings in the front row by Jeløysundet have specially made steel beams in the floor slabs and around the balconies.
- "We have been involved in creating something that has never been made before. Since we got involved in the project at an early stage, we found solutions to create unique beams," explains department manager Bjørn Erik Ualand of Nordic Steel.
In total, the three apartment buildings, each eight storeys high, have 1,893 meters of steel beams. That's over 100 tons in total.
- "It's been a really exciting project to be involved in. We've been involved from start to finish and the result has been great," says Ualand.
The facade of the apartment buildings is linked to the history and the old buildings that have been preserved at Verket. The new Hotel Riviera also contributes to important urban development in Moss.
Moss has its own beach hotel right next to the three apartment buildings. Here we find contributions from Nordic Steel both indoors and outdoors.
Parts of the hotel have a Corten steel facade with a hole pattern. Almost 360 square meters are covered with Corten steel, which blends well with the industrial look of the residential blocks. Indoors, there is a large freestanding steel structure in the winter garden, where one of the hotel's bars is located.
- "We've created a large steel structure that is the attachment for the facade of the conservatory. The steel is both a framework, but is also used as a design element, with space for lots of green plants," explains Ualand.
Hotel Riviera opened in summer 2023 and is inspired by resorts along the Riviera.
- It's been great to see how the hotel and apartment buildings turned out in the end. In terms of design, the hotel is in a class of its own. We're proud to have been involved in such an accomplished and beautiful development in Moss," says Bjørn Erik Ualand.
- "Nordic Steel has been involved in the project with both the apartment buildings and the hotel throughout, which has been important for a good result in the end," concludes Roger Stensby of ØMF Østfold.
