"The construction and installation of Mjøstårnet in Brumunddal is world leading engineering. The main structure is based on glulam with covering elements consisting of a combination between glulam and kerto, and facades as wooden elements. This is a response to the green shift and proof that wood is a material that can challenge traditional solutions even at height, as well as enabling climate-rich construction only one thinks offensively enough, says builder and investor Arthur Buchardt.
Mjøstårnet in Brumunddal has a total scope of about 15,000 sqm, spans 18 floors and includes apartments, hotels, offices, restaurants and associated common areas. The total height is over 80 meters.
The challenge forMoelven Limtre were strict requirements from the builder. Wood has different features than traditional materials used in such structures, and it therefore required the use of steel in order to realize Mjøstårnet.
Nordic Steel has supplied slot fittings, slot plates and fittings in steel, to ensure that the construction achieved the qualities and strength necessary to achieve a stable and safe building.
The holes in the slot plates are so accurate that you can have two slot plates 30 meters away from each other, run a laser beam through the hole on the first slot plate, and then hit through the hole on the second slot plate that is 30 meters away. The slit plates have stricter requirements than the NORSOK standard, and have a tolerance requirement of 0.5 millimeters. Yes you read correctly, 0.5 millimeters! It's as narrow as the tip of a ballpoint pen.
