Nordic Steel has been awarded a contract with Statnett, which secures Oslo's power supply

Nordic Steel is to deliver 150 tonnes of steel racks to Statnett for cable installations in the Smestad-Sogn tunnel in Oslo.

- We are very pleased with the trust given to us by Statnett, to deliver equipment in a tunnnel critical to the power supply of Oslo. This delivery meet the strictest requirements for technical execution, delivery precision, environment and documentation, says Harald Moi, project manager at Nordic Steel.

There are 150 tonnes of steel racks to be set up in the 4.5 kilometer long cable tunnel between Smestad and Sogn. The steel racks function as suspension systems for the cables in the tunnel. They are to be produced in acid-proof steel.

Largest transformer station

Statnett is responsible for the Norwegian power system by development and operation of high-voltage lines and transformer stations. Between Smestad and Sogn in Oslo, a 420 kV cable system will be installed in a tunnel. Today, cables between the stations are old and are thus required to be renewed with cables with larger capacity to secure the power supply to Oslo.

- It is very exciting for us to be able to contribute to such important work for the power supply of the future. Statnett's development ensures that Oslo and Viken can withstand both increased electricity consumption and population growth in the years ahead. We are much looking forward to getting started with the production of Statnett's steel racks, says Harald Moi.

Another important public contract

Nordic Steel is one of Norway's highest certified steel centers and delivers advanced steel processing to all industries. The customers are both public and private actors. A large public contract that with Statnett secures work for several months.

- We have been awarded the contract with Statnett because we had the overall best offer. The fact that we once again gain confidence in a significant public contract, on such an important and demanding project, underpin our commitment as Norway's leading steel center. We have extensive experience in producing equipment of this size for various types of buildings, tunnels and installations. We are looking forward to another great project with Statnett, says Børre Lobekk, CEO of Nordic Steel.
