The production company Seefood contacted us in November 2023. Could we create a box that fit their program idea?
And we could!
The box had to be tall enough for an adult, have enough space inside, a seat to sit on and room for a camera and lights inside. Safety was a very important element. No edges had to be sharp, no one had to get stuck in the door or hit their head if they were to jump out of the box. The box also had to withstand lifting from a crane and helicopter.
An important requirement was that the doors should be remotely controlled and opened simultaneously on all 12 boxes. The boxes are made of aluminum, to reduce weight, since they would be moved a lot. They also had to be easily dismantled and packed together. These were just some of the specifications.
In addition, the boxes had to look good on TV.
We couldn't tell anyone about the program. It wouldn't be on TV until a year after we started working on it. Even internally at Nordic Steel, not many people knew what the yellow boxes were for, not even those who cut the plates, welded the parts, or assembled the boxes together.
– The box is a brand new major initiative from TV 2, and the entire program has been recorded in our region. The boxes are specially made by us for the series, and it was only natural that we were chosen to deliver them. Now we are excited about the reception. I myself am really looking forward to watching the program, says Børre Lobekk, CEO of Nordic Steel.
In The Box, 12 participants must solve various tasks. They are not given an explanation, but must throw themselves into the task on their own. The participants are placed in their own box, and they never know what is outside the box. They only know that the competition starts when the doors of the box open.
The boxes are developed and produced by us, in close collaboration with Seefood.
At Nordic Steel we say that we can make anything in steel. With us, anything is possible.
That's really true.
