- It is a great honor to receive the award as this year's Environmental Lighthouse from the Environmental Lighthouse Foundation, which is a recognized national environmental certification scheme. Of the 8,000 certified Eco-Lighthouse companies, we win in the small and medium-sized businesses category. In Norway, more than 90 percent of all companies are in this category, so this is extra cool, says CEO Børre Lobekk.
Nordic Steel has been a certified Environmental Lighthouse company since 2014, which means that the company reports annually on everything from waste management, energy use, working environment, purchasing and transport. In Nordic Steel, the work with sustainability is rooted in the entire company and environmentally friendly choices are made in all parts of the operation.
- Many customers choose us because we can document climate emissions on what we produce. We can ensure that customers get lower climate emissions by choosing recycled steel with a guarantee of origin, for example, Lobekk explains.
The environmental lighthouse's justification for awarding the prize to Nordic Steel also shows that the position the company has taken in the green shift is noticed:
- Large customers are becoming increasingly tougher in their environmental requirements. Nordic Steel is positioning itself as a subcontractor to the industry with its green competitiveness, and has taken a strong position in the green shift. Despite the fact that Nordic Steel has increased turnover and the number of employees significantly in recent years, CO2 emissions have fallen sharply. The Eco-Lighthouse jury is impressed with the modern and future-oriented industrial group, and they award the prize for the Eco-Lighthouse of the Year 2021 for small and medium-sized enterprises.
- The award is a great inspiration to continue working to reduce climate emissions and make sustainable choices at all levels, it is a responsibility we all have. We at Nordic Steel can not do everything, but we must do everything we can in all areas we can influence, concludes Børre Lobekk.
